10 Reasons New Year’s Resolutions Fail and How You Can Stick to Them in 2022
It’s (just been) a new year and it’s a time when many people set resolutions goals to better themselves in some way—and that’s what New Year resolutions are made for. However, the problem is, they’re really hard to stick with. In fact, over 90% of us will fail at keeping them past the second week in February.
So, what’s the deal? Why can’t we seem to stick to our goals for longer than 6 weeks? Well, as it turns out, there are a lot of reasons–55% of resolutions were centered around health such as exercising more and eating healthier. Another 20% of resolutions focused around getting out of debt.
Setting these lofty goals is hard no matter what time of year, so trying to incorporate them into your life just a couple of days after the hectic holidays?
That’s a tough ask.
Whether it’s a lack of motivation, lack of resources, or simply becoming bored with the resolution, there are ways to help you succeed and finish what you started. Let’s take a look at top 10 reasons New Year resolutions fail and how you can knock it out of the park this year.
Make 2022 the year that you stick to your resolutions and finally reach your health and dental goals.
Here are some tips on how to start this year off right:
1. Start with something easy to do—a resolution doesn’t have to be huge, just start by making it one less thing you have to do
2. Making your goal specific and measurable
3. Keeping it simple. If you want to pay off debt, don’t make a ton of resolutions—just focus on one or two things at a time that will help you accomplish that goal faster.
4. Make sure your plan is realistic
5. Remind yourself why you started this in the first place—write it down, read it daily, and keep your eyes on the prize.
6. Allow yourself to take a break from your resolutions when needed. Living a healthier life takes time and is an ongoing learning process, so give yourself grace when need be.
7. Get someone else involved. Tell your spouse, friend, or even hire a coach to keep you accountable.
8. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed

It’s coming to the third week of January and this is generally the time when supposedly three-fourths of all people who have made resolutions for the new year has found a way to break one or all of their resolutions.
Twitter Canada claims that the number one resolution by Canadians at the start of 2018 was to “Volunteer more or to donate more to charity”. This was followed by resolutions to Drink more water, Exercise more, Learn a new language, etc.
These are all noble resolutions but New Year’s resolutions are notoriously difficult to keep, and so we wanted to ask if you were sticking with your resolutions or if you had #brokennewyearresolutions?
To help you in the care of your teeth and gums we had some thoughts on what could be great New Year resolutions for you to consider:
The new year or any other time of the year is a perfect time to write down the resolutions that have the objective of ultimately rewarding you with great health! Here is Global Health’s
health checklist to get you to start your new year right!
You could start with baby steps by resolving to just improve your teeth brushing habits or technique. You could step that up by resolving to complete pending dental treatment, and so on.
Remember that the reward of these resolutions is great health.
Here are the top 5 New Year resolutions for your Dental Health
Improve Oral health
- For successful plaque removal, brush at least twice a day using a good toothbrush and a fluoridated toothpaste.
- Floss at least once per day to remove food particles that may have been lodged in the space between your teeth.
- Use an inter-dental brush at least once a day to clean out spaces between teeth
- Replace toothbrushes every 3 to 4 months.
Get a Dental cleaning at least once every 6 months
- Get a Dental cleaning at a Dental office right away if it has been over 6 months since your last professional cleaning of teeth.
- This will help improve your breath as well. Something your significant other will appreciate!
Quit Smoking
- Or simply stop tobacco any kind of Tobacco use. Smoking or any other Tobacco use stains your teeth and potentially reduces your active lifespan
Get your Teeth Whitened
- While tobacco is perhaps the biggest doer of damage to your teeth, wine, coffee, and tea can also turn your pearly whites into shades of yellow and gray. There is a wide variety of teeth whitening methods to choose from. Ask your Dentist which one he or she will recommend for you
Restore your smile
- Now is the perfect time to complete dental work that you have been putting off. Teeth restoration, the placements of implants, etc not just improves your smile (which it surely does!) but even more so completing these jobs in time helps preserve your mouth’s dental structure and the alignment of your teeth.
You definitely can make this year, that you say, “I did it, my way!”
